eBay have decided to do another account review 2 weeks after my last one was completed.

eBay have just sent me a message to say they are putting my payments on hold for another 5 days due to needing to do a review of my account. This came about because I went to withdraw £11.98 for an item I sold since in the week after the last review was completed.

I have contacted customer service who were most unhelpful saying that the department that deals with account reviews are basically a black site and cannot be contacted. They will contact you.

I have just sold my old laptop for around £400 but I am not really willing to send out such a high value item where eBay may decide something is wrong with my account and withhold my money from me for longer than the 5 days.

Does anyone know of any way to contact this department so I can get this review done and removed as I am really unhappy with the fact they are doing it again after less than 2 weeks since the last one. I could understand 6 months or a year review but not 2 weeks.

Thanks

Where did you get 5 days from ?

If a seller sells an item a little out of the ordinary,  that is,  perhaps for a greater value than the usual items sold,  it can raise red flags to eBay,  it could be a sign the account has been hijacked,  it does happen.

So,  here,  payouts could be held longer  30 days.

There is no 5 day hold under Simple Delivery.

When tracking shows delivery payouts are released 2 days after the delivery date,  unless you are counting this as a 5 day ' hold' ??

No tracking?  Payouts are held for a minimum of 14 days.

Hi there, thanks for your response I will copy in the message from eBay. I understand exactly what is being said in the message and understand why it is done. My issue is with the fact they are doing this again just over a week after the last one was completed and the fact I have no way to contact the department doing the check on me. The last one took the full 5 days on the email in addition to the 2 days waiting after delivery. They never contacted me to ask for any info, never contacted me to say it was completed with no issues just left me in the dark. I am normally selling items in a range of prices as I am trying to clear out my house as I have so much just sitting around wasting space. £400 is a bit more than normal but nothing massively over what I have sold before.

Thanks James.

Message from eBay -

Hi James,

We wanted to let you know that because of some recent changes in your selling activity, we are reviewing your account to make sure it’s secure.

There’s nothing you need to do, but until we finish our review, you’ll see a temporary hold on your payouts. We understand this may be frustrating, but reviews like this help keep our marketplace safe for everyone.

We review accounts for many different reasons. For example, if you’re a new seller and don’t have an established selling history, if there’s a big change in your selling patterns, or if you have an increase in customer claims or late deliveries.

Here’s what you need to know

We’ll review your account within 5 days and get back to you if we need anything else.

If the review is successful, the hold on your payouts will automatically be lifted and your funds will be released as scheduled.

You can check the status of the hold on your payouts any time, and learn more about payment holds using the link below.

You’re welcome to continue to buy and sell while we review your account.
