Can somebody please explain to me what buyers get for their Buyers Protection Fee for items they collect?
eBay don't pay sellers until an item is collected and the collection code is entered - and if the buyer isn't happy with what they are buying, they don't need to provide the seller with the collection code and car drive off into the sunset.
If they are happy and provide the code, what protection are they getting from eBay for their protection fee?
They are happy with the goods, they are driving or walking away with the goods - what could possibly happen for them to invoke the eBay's protection?
It has all the hallmarks of a protection racket that is somehow legal.

No. But I also don’t live in a world where there is a belief that business (multi national businesses at that would willingly make a loss on a service they provide.
if you can find a site like eBay that will allow you to sell a product and take a card payment at no cost, can you let us all know?
the reason is literally…

Yes. They are used to encourage people into supermarkets to encourage people then to make a big shop at a profit for said store. Of course, the store would accept a percentage of customers would buy the loss leader and nothing else.
Now - how does that work with ebay? Do they hope someone places one item on sale for collection but they recover the costs with the rest they mark as postage?
I'll tell you now what will happen if collections were free. Lots of sellers would list everything as collection only. The sale would take place and then low and behold, those sellers will swap addresses and paypal details to organise postage!
Look - you clear are very passionate in your belief that ebay would willingly lose money. In their current position as the third biggest shopping site in the UK - they will not do that.

So that equates to combined orders in online ebay language? -
The process which ebay are trying to eradicate thru SD. Which costs both buyers and sellers and of course the environmental issues associated with one item one package orders.
Surprisingly only ebay make monies on this dictate.

How many combined orders are there of collection and delivery?
Its a pointless argument anyway - because in what world do you see ebay willingly paying out of their own pocket for Visa or PayPal fees?

Theres nothing unrealistic about that, any electrical faults could work fine for a couple minutes when collecting, then show faults
