Why the heck has eBay changed the payment rules yet again? Are they trying to mimic another selling site with the same unfair policies?
After reading some comments on this subject, one reply to a member, who stated that they couldn't afford to fork out postage costs and wait until their parcel had been delivered before receiving payment (which I totally agree with), was "if that strapped for cash then really shouldn't be selling on eBay". What nonsense! In that case one wold just take items to a charity shop or bin them! The whole point of selling on eBay, I thought, was to make a bit of money, if financially well off then why bother?
I was about to start listing items for sale again, I'm trying to clear out my life of possessions because Yes, I do need the money and also because I'd like to make life a little easier for my family to cope with when I pop my clogs! I also donated a percentage of sales to charities that I think are very worthwhile but undervalued , and in need of help.
I'm really disappointed with eBay, the new rules, I think are going to affect lots of members and most likely eBay's reputation and profits too!

For the benefit of others, that was a very foolish thing to do. You now have none of the evidence that ebay will accept should the buyer make a claim for item not received.
What you should have done is cancel that sale and relist is as collection only, then when you delivered the buyer would have a collection code to give you.
You can also 'opt out' of all the new changes by upgrading to a business account. You have multiples of brand new items to sell, that is not what a private seller has.
By trading on a private account you are breaking a number of consumer laws including one about masquerading as a private seller, which is closer to fraud than anything ebay has done to you.

Your entitled to your opinion and I also am papso22.
I also will be leaving Ebay once the £950 lands.
As I stated the Ebay collection code is for collecting, I was delivering personally so again in my opinion there are definitely wording issues going on!! I delivered personally for a fee the buyer did not collect. I needed to charge delivery due to distance and fuel costs. I stupidly thought decent feedback would suggest the sale was done and dusted.
It's doubtful Ebay are breaking laws they would of confirmed before the changes were put in place they are an obscenely massive business, but morally I would suggest they need work.
Once again thanks for the stern talking to papso22 much appreciated 😉

Ebay accepts two different types of evidence of 'delivery' for the purpose of item not received claims, one is online tracked evidence of delivery, the other is a collection code.
By delivering an item listed for postage personally you made it impossible to have either. I hope your buyer is honest.

This is where my relationship with ebay ends.. This is just ridiculous.
As many other people that use this platform I have just sold an item to bring in some funds due to an emergency.
I now have to cancel the item and probably get a strike because I needed the funds for postage.

No need to cancel that item, pending funds can now be used to buy postage, see this latest announcement:
Starting from 4 February, UK-based private sellers will also be paid after item delivery. Funds will typically be available in your eBay balance two calendar days after delivery confirmation. Pending funds can also be used to buy postage labels and refund buyers.

Unfortunately Ebay seem to be following other selling platforms, getting rid of selling fees which means they don't have to pay taxes on their income whereas by holding sellers payments for anything up to 5 days or more they are simply getting the interest on the monies. I would rather pay selling fees and be paid once buyer has paid, this is going to put a huge amount of people off using these selling sites. I for one am hugely frustrated at the new rules and have thought seriously about setting up a simple web page to sell anything and to stop using Ebay altogether.

you must comply... you must comply....
some people like to use other postal services... using pending funds is only using eBay's system for shipping..
i do not wish to comply.. and nether do so many.

I agree with the other ' so many!'
My mine sadness at all this is not being able to buy over the counter postage at my local village post office anymore. I have struck up a lovely rapport with the family who work all hours to keep their little post office business afloat.
I hoped my meagre offerings went towards that help now with prepaid postage compulsory buying from eBay soon, they'll make pennies from each item handled.

Don’t know how you can use eBay’s postage if you don’t have a printer or a smartphone.

The new payment on eBay is a joke , have to wait 2 days after delivery to get paid, who goes shopping and pay for your things 2 days later, eBay are going to loose a lots of sellers

Sold an item on Thursday , dispatched it on Friday morning , using Royal Mail Tracked 48 , buyer should receive it on following Monday ( fingers and toes all crossed ) , then hopefully will get my fund on following Wednesday … so ebay is holding our fund for at least 6 days in their bank account …
BLIMEY … … …

I've just had an attempted delivery of a tracked item. Which massively will delay the seller (me) getting paid.... its a VERY VERY unfair playing field here at the moment. All geared up for Ebay earning interest on all our money and the Purchaser more power to potentially be more of a pain in the *bleep*!!
18-02-2025 9:31 AM
Well said. I've complained about this but they pay no attention, or come back with B.ll Sh.t comments.
EBay have gone too far this time.
The new system is flawed and unlawful, I have an item that's been delivered (sent tracked and signed for) which I have to charge for. This puts off some folk, that would rather find the same item, from a seller that offers free postage. Further more, the item I sent has been delivered, I know this because the buyer left positive feedback, but it still comes up on item information as still in transit. And as such, I'm still awaiting payment to be added as balance! It even comes up on Royal mail tracking as 'Delivered'.
I've flagged this and sent proof to eBay and still awaiting a response!
I also disapprove of their new charges to buyers! What's happened to this once much loved company!?
18-02-2025 9:35 AM
So currently I have nearly £700 sitting waiting to clear so I can transfer to my bank this is a completely unfair process....for small private sellers. These items were all delivered and I still have to wait 2 days.
Normally in bank next day. Helping me out over the month coming up to pay day but not anymore!!

Agree 100%. I have been a loyal seller on eBay for 12 years. And this new rule has completely penalised me and the fact that as a freelancer in my work, I rely on the quick turnaround of funds so that I can post my items in time. This new rule has completely failed trustworthy sellers, me included who have good track records and always post on time. I find it to be very suspicious that they made this huge thing about being able to list for free again, and then not long after introduce this delay in being paid. I am seriously considering moving to another platform that values me as a seller. After 12 years. What are you doing eBay?
18-02-2025 10:55 AM - edited 18-02-2025 10:56 AM
I completely agree it is so unfair, especially as buyers can select untracked delivery themselves. I am considering moving to another platform now. The trust in eBay’s sellers has been completely eroded. It’s disrespectful to those of us who have been here for so long and always posted on time, and been trustworthy. They do not deserve our loyalty.
18-02-2025 12:12 PM
I agree it is unfair and another sign that ebay does not value individual sellers. Like many others I am waiting for money on items which have obviously been safely delivered owing to the positive feedback received - but because their system has not been updated, tracking still shows " in transit" after several days!

Yes it's terrible how they're now incentivising us to no longer use royal mail but these other p&p services which are completely crumbling our uk economy. Terrible for communities and small businesses everywhere including our local shops.
