Removing bank account

Hello,  with all the fees, postage and payout changes I’m no longer intending to sell on eBay so I’d like to remove my bank account details from the site, for obvious security reasons.  How can I do this without closing my account entirely?   Can I close the seller part of the account but keep my ID and good feedback?

When I try to remove the bank account the site won’t let me.   Ebay online chat has stated that the bank account will be automatically removed but there’s no timescale, so I’m sceptical.   Happy to leave it for a few weeks in case there are any buyer issues, but no longer.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi st3v31963, thanks for your post.

There is no option to remove your bank account, I'm afraid. In order to do this, you'd need to close down your account and once your data is deleted, your bank account is removed.

Thank you,

Marco

You are partly correct that you need to wait  a while to take action , because you have had recent sales it will take more than a few weeks,  but a few months.

Then,  you will need to close your eBay account, and that then will remove your bank account.

Type in Close Account top left of homepage into Help & Contact,  they will explain the closure process.

Removing bank account

This is insane. Why? And how is it legal? I have the same issue as OP. I want to stop selling on ebay and therefore eBay does not need to retain a link to my bank account or the data associated with it. Why is this not possible to delete without closing the entire account and therefore your business losing yet another customer, or do you think we'll rush straight back? Absolutely nuts and shady as heck....

You could try exercising your rights under Article 17 of the General Data Protection Regulations, which is the Right To Erasure, also sometimes referred to as the Right To Be Forgotten.  The grounds for making this request would be where it is no longer necessary for an organisation to retain your personal data in relation to the purpose for which it was originally collected or processed, or where you revoke your consent to the processing of this information and the organisation in question has no other lawful basis for processing the data in question.

Although in some instances an organisation can refuse to comply with such a request - for example, if they are processing the information for the defence, exercise or establishment or any legal claims, eBay are unlikely to be able to use this as a reason as to why they are failing to comply with your request for your information to be erased.  This leads me on to my next point:

In the event that a company - including eBay - refuses to comply with your request for your personal data to be deleted, then you have the right to complain to the Independent Commissioner's Office (aka ICO), who have the power to investigate such complaints and implement enforcement action against the organisation if they find them to be guilty of a breach of General Data Protection Regulations.

Thanks for your reply. I did think about making a complaint under GDPR, but decided that, with all the changes, I was very unlikely to be selling (or buying from private sellers) again, it wasn’t worth the hassle.

However, this stands as a useful note to other people who may want to continue using eBay, but don’t wish to sell any longer.
