I was about to withdraw funds from a sale made around 8 hours ago that had just been added to my eBay balance and available for withdrawal until I noticed the account for purchases and the account for payouts ended in different numbers which prompted me to add a new account for payouts. I now realise they were both the exact account, one was "Visa Debit ending in" and the other "Bank Account ending in" and the different numbers were for the card number and bank building society number but before this realisation I added a "new" payout method and now have the red banner that states "As a security precaution, payouts to your bank account ending in 0268 will be delayed for up to 48 hours because you recently changed your banking info". I've just spoken to a very nice man over the phone that told me this process shouldn't take the 48 hours and be completed swiftly as it's the same bank account that has already been verified once in the past, the fact it's currently 02:00am on a Sunday won't effect the time the verification will take and that I won't have to wait several days for microtransactions from eBay as they won't be using that verification method so my question is, is this likely to be the case in your experience? Have you added a new different account or re-added the same account and recieved the same message and delay and how long did it the verification process take? Pretty much everything I've been able to find online from people who've been prompted to update their payout methods and then re-added the exact same bank account has stated it's taken anywhere from 3-6 weeks for them to be able to withdraw funds from their accounts but of course I don't have every last bit of context for these cases. I am able to withdraw funds within 24 hours of the buyer paying as I meet the criteria so my account is in good standing with eBay if that helps too

Got the same message-- tho in this case I hadn't changed any of my details. Got on the phone and she said it's a "random process" and the system spots changes; she then said she'd pass it on and ring me back.... she hasn't. YIPEEEE!!!

Hi lhgau97, thanks for your post.
Once you update your bank details, it will take up to 48 hours for these changes to take effect. Once that is done, you might need to verify your bank account. If so, there are different options to do it, the slowest would take up to 5 business days, which is the verification with micro deposits. The way it works is that you request a couple of micro deposits, and they they will show up in your bank account, once you receive them there, you need to enter them in your eBay account and that will verify your account and your payouts will resume. You have quicker options like logging in with your bank (which would verify your account straight away), but some members prefer to go with the micro deposits. If it takes longer than that, it might a case of a mismatch or something wrong with the bank details, but it shouldn't take that long.
Hope this helps clarify everything for you,
Marco

I forgot to mention in my post that I added my bank account via selecting it from a list in a pop up window and logging into my online banking via eBay and authorised the eBay permissions through my banking app. The jist of what I think was being told to me by an agent on the customer service live chat is that by doing that my bank account was instantly verified there and then so no need for microdeposits/transactions or anything further on my end and that the payout delay would end 48 hours after doing so but it was quite confusion and unclear as to what he was actually saying. Can you confirm that by me adding my bank account via that method I am not required to do anything further to verify my bank account and that after 48 hours of doing so I am able to withdraw funds from my eBay account again? Thanks.

Thanks for your reply, lhgau97.
Adding your bank account would be a different process to verifying a bank account. If verification was prompted while adding your bank account, then yes, your account should've been verified when logging in with your bank. However, if the verification wasn't prompted, it wouldn't have been verified as there was no need for it. Based on your comments, I'd say no verification was requested when you added your bank account.
Thank you,
Marco

This happened to me yesterday withdrew my money first job of the day, done money appeared in my bank account within moments as is usual.
Messages next job noticed there was a message from ebay stating we are unable to verify your bank account for payouts although I’ve to avoid holds on you account please UPDATE your account. So went through all the palaver even connecting to my account online as this was recommended to be the swiftest method. Once done received another ebay message saying thank you for updating your account there will now be a hold for 48 hours due to the CHANGE in your bank account. So now I’ve got money I can’t access because I updated my account with the same details I’ve used for ebay for in excess of 20 years.
I called customer help twice who should be called customer hinderance as they were just reading from a script and kept saying because I changed my bank account they have to verify it’s me tried telling me that nothing had changed but we were just going around in ever decreasing circles, so lesson learned if they give a time window to do anything take the full amount of time as being diligent gets you absolutely nowhere.

It seems to me more of a "we'll just keep your money in our account to make us money" than anything to do with security. I mean, what's the point in having passwords and email confirmations if they then say "Payouts will be delayed for up to 48 hours because you recently changed your banking info"
It's a BS cop out ploy for them to keep your money a few days longer.
