Non paying buyer

Hi,

i sold an item recently that the buyer bid on during early stages of the auction. As soon as the item was won, a cancellation request was filed. I would have cancelled the bid if I had been contacted before but was annoyed they won and then cancelled.
I was under the impression you had to wait 4 days before cancelling the order as a non payment so I was waiting for this but on the eve of the fourth day- the item was cancelled (by me apparently) even though I hadn’t cancelled it.
I’m just annoyed that the buyer has got away with this and I can’t even leave negative feedback or a strike on the buyer… how can I amend this??
Any help appreciated

If the buyer just doesn't pay, you do have to wait 4 days and can then cancel using 'buyer didn't pay' so the buyer gets a non-payment strike.

However, if they ask to cancel and you don't respond to their request, Ebay will step in after 3 days.

Relevant rule is here:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/member-behaviour-policies/order-cancellation-policy?id=5298&st=...

  • 3 calendar days after the request date

If the buyer has paid for the order and the seller doesn't respond within this time frame, we'll close the request and the order won't be cancelled

If the buyer hasn't paid for the order and the seller doesn't respond within this time frame, we'll automatically cancel the order
