Missing Money

Back in September 2026 I transferred £2,000 from my eBay account to my bank account. Within about half an hour I changed my mind and transferred the money back to eBay however this money has been missing ever since. Both companies are denying that they have it but one of them must. I’m at a loss as to where to go. Has anyone ever experienced this?

I don't think transferring money to an ebay account is possible.  You probably just sent £2,000 into the ether.

I wasn’t even aware you could even add money to you eBay balance. How on earth did you transfer it back?

Re: Missing Money

"Back in September 2026" did you mean 2025 ?.

Surely only the bank will know where it has gone ?.

Re: Missing Money

Hi selling2clear, thanks for your post.

Not really sure what you mean, as you cannot transfer funds from your bank account to your eBay account, you can only transfer the funds from your eBay account to your bank account, the other way around is not possible.

Maybe you are mixing up eBay and PayPal since we were the same company at some point? If you meant PayPal, you'd need to follow this up directly with them since eBay and PayPal are no longer the same company and work independently now. Otherwise, you can clarify further your query, and me or anyone else here will be happy to help.

Thank you,

Marco

Re: Missing Money

No it was ebay n my online bank transfered it with successful transfer showing. I think jp Morgan is a merchant bank n I suspect it's gone to them. Nothing to do with PayPal on this transaction.

Re: Missing Money

Thanks for your reply, selling2clear.

That's fair enough, I only mentioned PayPal because as advised above, there is no option or way to cancel your payout, so it can return to your eBay account, and there is no option or way to withdraw funds from your bank account into your eBay account.

I am presuming you're referring to September 2025, so if you haven't received that payout, you can take the reference number of that payout in your eBay account and share it with your bank, so they can investigate. However, if the funds did hit your bank account, but then they went somewhere else, it probably won't be related to us, and the reference number might not work, but your bank should be able to trace those funds for you or carry a further investigation.

Thank you,

Marco

Re: Missing Money

Your issue is - you can't transfer funds into your ebay account.

So what did you do in your bank account that makes you believe you transferred it back to ebay?

to pay money to anyone in most banks - as far as I knew you would need a sort code and account number.

How exactly did you initiate the transfer back to eBay?  You would have needed to know eBay's account number and sort code which is not disclosed anywhere.

Re: Missing Money

@selling2clear in your online banking, you can see the details of where the payment was sent to. Find the transaction of the 2k leaving your bank account and tap on it. That will then show you the bank account name and number and sort code that the payment went to. What does it say?
