Chargeback

Had a shock this morning, I received a message from eBay saying a buyer of an item I sold back in October had filed a dispute with their bank saying they did not recognise a transaction. I sent the item tracked 48 it was delivered with a picture of buyer receiving the item, they did not contact me through eBay and was oblivious there was an issue, why would a buyer not contact me or are they trying to get the item for nothing, will this affect me selling ? Never had this in all 19 years I have been a member

It won't affect your account.

Just deal with it promptly by adding the tracking that proves delivery and you should be eligible for Ebay seller protection.

All the details are here - have a careful/thorough read.

Chargeback

Thank you, I forwarded all the postage information on and a picture of him receiving the item on his doorstep from Royal Mail. Never had one of these in all 19 years, they are a new seller but still should have contacted me first or maybe he forgot he purchased the item on eBay so queried bank statement, who knows as they also have all this information. Just strange considering he purchased in October and it’s now January

That is the problem with these claims.

Most banks etc. allow a customer 120 days (sometimes more) to open a payment dispute.

If you haven't got proof of delivery, and the buyer claims they don't recognise the transaction, the financial institution will always find in favour of their customer.

I don’t understand how a buyer cannot recognise a transaction when it is all there on their eBay hub, so great that I have all postage proof and a picture of them receiving it, I just hate that I have it hanging over my head for goodness how long. It does make you worry selling anything on eBay if everyone can do a chargeback especially when I keep to all the rules 🤷🏼‍♀️

The only thing I can say, which I hope will reassure you a bit, is that, in my experience anyway, they are rare.

I have had ONE in 20 years of selling.

Like you, I was ... but I sent them an invoice, I left them feedback, I sent the item ... how could they not have realised they jad bought something?'
