Hi everyone,
I’m just wondering if anyone else has experienced ongoing issues with account verification on eBay and actually managed to get it resolved?
I’ve had my eBay account since 2006 and only started selling more actively towards the end of last year. On 27 March, eBay initiated the bank verification process (the £0.01 deposit and withdrawal), but while the penny went into my account fine, they’re saying the withdrawal has been blocked by my bank.
Since then, it’s been a constant cycle of calls back and forth. I’ve:
My bank has confirmed they can only “unblock” anything for a very short window (around 15 minutes) when a transaction is actually being attempted, whereas eBay are saying to wait 48 hours for verification attempts. So the two processes don’t seem to align at all.
I’ve now been told by eBay management that they are aware of a wider technical issue with verification, which they are trying to fix in the background—but there is no timescale. No indication whether that’s days, weeks, or even longer.
At the moment, I have money sitting in my account that I can’t access. I’ve removed all my listings because I’m not willing to continue selling if I can’t withdraw my money.
Has anyone else been through this and actually got it resolved? If so:
Just for clarity- I logged in via ebay to my bank to verify my account on 27th March. I have done it again today but I don't think its going to work!
It feels like this has been going on for a while for quite a few people, and I’m just trying to understand whether there’s a realistic resolution or if it’s just a waiting game.
Thanks in advance—any advice or shared experiences would be really appreciated.

I sold a high value item on 26/3/26 and was paid on 30/3/26. On the same day I received the "we are checking your bank account" notification. Additionally I received the penny drop into my bank account and was further informed the process of verification would take 6 to 8 days.
After numerous phone calls to eBay CS and my bank I was no further forward. In my most recent conversation with CS the agent stated that my account was one that had been "selected" but then retracted it.
My own theory is that because my last sale was a high value item eBay have decided to hold onto it to boost their pot of cash. I appreciate this sounds a bit like a conspiracy theory, but I cannot see another explanation. Judging by the numerous posts on here and on other websites "glitches" with eBay paying out funds seems to be a reoccurring issue.
Many internet articles suggest that eBay is a declining platform and is losing customers. Consequently it would seem to make sense for them to hold on as long as they can to funds from certain accounts and attribute the delay to "technical problems.,"

Honestly, this is absolutely disgraceful.
There seems to be no clear information at all about how customers are actually supposed to move this forward, yet funds are being held with no resolution in sight. Multiple people are now saying the same thing—money is stuck, verification isn’t working, and no one can give a straight answer as to what is actually going on.
I’ve personally spent weeks chasing this:
And still—nothing.
To make matters worse, I submitted a formal complaint yesterday. At 1am this morning, I received a response saying that the agent I previously spoke to gave the “correct information” and therefore my complaint has now been closed.
How can a complaint be closed when the actual issue is still unresolved?
I still cannot access my money. The funds are still sitting in my account, and nothing has been fixed. So how exactly is that considered resolved?
The response I received was essentially:
That is not a resolution. That’s just passing the issue elsewhere without actually dealing with it.
There also seems to be a known technical issue behind the scenes, but again—no transparency, no timescales, and no proper communication to customers.
At this point, it feels like they think they can just close complaints and people will give up. That’s not going to happen.
I will be escalating this further and will be seeking compensation for:
How have you taken it forward?

I could not agree with you more.
I received a message from someone this morning basically this is a predetermined strategy on eBays behalf in order to boost their account. They stated that by keeping CS and customers in the dark it was easier to attribute the delay to technical problems.
I do not believe for one minute a company with the technical resources that eBay have at their disposal cannot rectify a technical problem like this. Therefore, I have to admit that I think they are doing it deliberately.
I have emailed the C.E.O. Eve Williams at eve.williams@ebay.com twice, but I havnt received a reply.
The F.S.O. website has details on how to pursue a claim, but it appears like quite a protracted and time consuming process. But on their website there are several cases we're eBay has been prosecuted for withholding payments.
I now firmly believe eBay are "at it" regarding payments. But as you rightly point out moving forward is very difficult. I am going to keep digging to see if there is another angle on this. If I discover anything I will post it.

Hi there everyone I’m also a ebay seller and have been experiencing some verification issues that have started around Thursday /friday last week
my payouts have been restricted for no reason telling me I need to re verify a bank that had no issues in the first place
i have tried to verify multiple times and it’s not working
bank statements
and micro deposits etc
I have money sitting in my balance I want access to
can someone please let me know what I should do I am on the verge of leaving the ebay platform as they are currently stealing my hard earned money and withholding it from me!

Literally nothing. I've called. I've emailed. They haven't given a resolution other than they know it's a technical fault with no timeframe.
Thing is IT technical issues can happen. Sometimes with banks this happens re access to funds but they sort it out quickly and normally within hours people can access their funds. This has been ongoing since atleast Jan/Feb that I can see- some posts even dating back to last year.
I've deleted all my listings.
I even complained and they shut the complaint down as resolved when in fact its not been resolved because I still do not have my money.
I've asked them to reopen the complaint. I've going to contact the FCA with an Ombudsman complaint.
I'm also going going to go down a media avenue to get more coverage on this issue that theyre not acknowledging.
Someone on a different forum said they were going to file a police report for ebay fraudulently retaining money that doesn't belong to them and put it against the UK CEO.
But that's all unhelpful really because for now people like us can't access our money and no idea when we'll be able too.

Firstly, you are not alone. I have pursuing my four figure payout since 30/3/26. After numerous fruitless calls to CS I did manage to get through to an Irish agent who is part of a team set up specifically to deal with this problem.
Apparently sometime between the end of March/beginning of April eBay state that there was a technical issue with bank verfication procedures and penny drops. Because some people were waiting the 6 to 8 days for verification I think there was slow uptake on people reporting issues regarding them not receiving payments.
I received an email from the Irish team this morning stating that they are now fully aware of the technical problem regarding payments and that they are working on it around the clock.
Judging by articles on the internet this appears to be a reoccurring issue with eBay. It could just be technical issues, but the cynic in me also believes it might just be a strategy of a declining platform trying to hold onto funds the keep their pot of cash topped up.
Hope this helps

I spoke to an Irish agent on Saturday and followed the call up today. They stated that they are now fully aware of the problem and are working around the clock to resolve it. But as you rightly mention this seems to be a reoccurring issue with eBay, and articles on the internet reinforce that this has been going on since the beginning of the year. A cynical point of view might assume that it is a strategy employed by a declining platform to hold on to funds to keep their pot of cash topped up.
I have contacted the CEO, Eve Williams twice but I havnt received a response eve.williams@ebay.com it might not be the right address but it does get delivered.
I think the issue has taken a week or so to come to light. The Irish team have been set up to deal with this one issue. Apparently the glitch occurred in the last week/first week of April with bank verfication and penny drops. Seeing as this usually only takes 6 to 8 days it looks like it is only now just coming to light.
I think eBay have behaved disgracefully not keeping customers informed and have instead let them "didcover" the problem gradually. As for the FSO/A it looks like a bit of a protracted procedure, but I get the frustration and anger. Once this is resolved I am finished with eBay.

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to update—mine has now been resolved and I’ve been able to withdraw my funds.
What worked for me (in case it helps anyone else):
After doing this, the verification went through—but it did take around 48 hours to fully complete.
I’m not sure if this will work for everyone, but it might be worth trying if you’re stuck like I was.
Hope this helps!

Hi everyone,
I have been selling on ebay for over a year and payouts used to go to my bank every month with no issues. March 2026 payout has been In Progress status for over 15 days now. I called customer service several times and they keep saying it is the financial institution verifications, when I asked to clarify is it eBay or my Bank, they said it is my bank. However, they later said it is internal verification. They keep sending/saying paste and copy ready answers with no justification why the money is held (£1500), I will struggle paying suppliers and cost of selling. They said that the process may take up to 30 days. this is disgraceful! I am now thinking of leaving eBay altogether, but I need my money back.

Hi
I'm so sorry.
Customer service wont be able to help much unfortunately. You can call Ebay and ask to speak to a supervisor. I did put in a formal complaint.
Its an Ebay issue. Not a Bank issue
Like I said see above. The only thing that worked for me was logging into Ebay account via a laptop browser. Not the app. Then adding a new bank account (i added the same one) but the system picked it up as new. Then wait 48 hours and it should update. I went through the bank verification via the browser. Logged into my bank through my hsbc app etc.
Thats the only thing that worked for me.
Ironically they put the 1p in on 27th March and took it out yesterday so no idea what their system is doing.
When I spoke to the supervisor he said there are some accounts that have been affected and the technical team are aware.
But its disgraceful that its now April and this issue has been ongoing for atleast a month
I hope that helps.

Hi,
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Did you have a payment in progress and after what you did, the payment was cleared after 48 hours?
Thanks

I’m having exactly the same problem, I had an account on file and £1811 funds available to withdraw however I wanted it to go to a different account so I added my new account and deleted the old one, now it won’t let me verify my new account as stuck in a loop, I need the money to help fund a holiday next week, I’m such a fool I should of withdrawn first but didn’t expect this bollox 🤬
