return damaged on route back to seller,can i still get my money back

i brought an item that seller said was the right one for my machine was not so returned it got damaged on rioute can i still get my refund from him as sent it back by courier without doing a return thought ebay

Doubt it, the reason all returns should be done through ebay, is that when things go wrong you can hopefully get assistance from ebay.

You have no means of forcing a refund, even if it had not been broken, but you could contact courier company to see what they say.
