faulty item unable to return

I purchased an item in September which turned out to be faulty. MP3 player which often goes to "white screen" which renders it inoperable. When I wrote to the seller they asked me to return it as "no longer needed" but the return date for this had passed. 

I wrote and told them this and was repeatedly ignored.

A few weeks  ago I gave them an ultimatum that I would open a case ,

I cannot see how to do this,

eBay's deadline for claims is only 30 days.   Credit cards allow 120 days.    Or if you did use your credit card you could try a Section 75 claim:

You're unfortunately out of time to open an eBay return, their Buyer Protection/Money Back Guarantee is for 30 days.

 

If the payment was funded by a debit or credit card you have 120 days to issue a chargeback, so are past that timeframe as well.

 

A section 75 claim can only be issued for credit card payments over £100 when the payment is made direct to a seller, not via an online platform such as eBay, who receive the payment and then pay it to the seller.
