classified Ads, what protection?

I bought a car from a dealer on Ebay. It was a classified Ad. Their description depicts the car as Very smooth, runs perfectly as it should and in Mint condition etc.

The car is terrible with an engine light on, it's misfiring and the complete opposite of what it should be.

What protection do I have through Ebay?

None, same as with any selling site for vehicles.

Buyers must inspect the vehicle and the paperwork before handing over payment.

Sorry, There is NO ebay protection for vehicles, no matter how you buy.

If it was a business seller, contact Citizens advice.

eBay has facilitated a Rogue Car dealer who clearly has several cars for sale and has used their trading name.. obviously not a private seller therefore a dealer trying to bypass their responsibilities by just saying that they are private. eBay can easily see that they are a motor trader, they gave them a platform showing 100% feedback and the implication that the buyer is safe.

Only when reading the small print does it say private... I believe that this misleading sales tactic where everyuthing they said in the advert was a lie is fraud and they are responsible regardless of what the posed  as on eBay.

Unfortunately as we have pointed out, ebay never get involved with vehicle listings.

It is always between you and seller.

If seller is trading illegally, you need to report to Trading standards.

Vehicles are too much of a minefield for ebay to offer any form of protection,

This is why you never pay for them through ebay.

Cash or bank transter AFTER careful inspection is only way.

Regardless of their account type, if the evidence points to them being a motor trader you have certain statutory rights but you need to pursue them yourself.
