can people bid less than the starting bid.

if I have an item with a starting bid of £100, can people put in a bid for less and do I have to sell it for the lowest bid?

They cannot bid less that your starting price.   You would be expected to sell at the highest bid price when the auction ends so it's best to make your start price the minimum you want to get.

Buyers cannot "bid" less than the starting price but they can - if you set things correctly - make an "offer" of less [or more] you are not obliged to accept.

Personally I've never seen the point of "offers" on eBay.  If you would take less why not start at a lower price?

I once used an offer of £15 on a table [collection] started at 99p [10 days] and the deal was done in 20 minutes!

If however you simply get a bid at your starting price then you are obliged to sell at that.  Rather obviously then you need to start at what you would really accept.  @ac_books
