I got a notification that a buyer had purchased and paid for my item . I paid for and arranged for a Royal Mail collection direct from Royal Mail website. When I went to add the tracking number I couldn't but got the message "Tracked and fully protected by eBay" which was a surprise to me as I had not bought the postage via eBay. When I printed the invoice it was then I saw it said 'buyer selected service eBay delivery via Evri'. I didn't even know a buyer could do this! Quite apart from the fact I wonder why it's even an option, and anyway the buyer hadn't told me this and how does he even know if that is convenient for me? Luckily I have been able to cancel the collection and request a refund. My question is, should I get a collection code before I hand over the parcel to Evri, if they turn up? And presumably the buyer would have to claim against Evri if there is a problem as he contracted them? Thanks

The simplest way is to cancel and relist. You can opt out of Evri via My eBay > Account tab > Selling > Postage Preferences > Simple Delivery > Courier Options > Edit. Or here's a direct link:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/ship/prf
The alternative is to buy the other postage yourself from RM. If you do that see if you can add the new tracking to the order by going to the Order Details > Postage > dropdown menu (beside track package) > Add Tracking > + Additional Tracking Number. If not contact ebay and ask them to do it. You can use callback on here:

Sorry I don't know how to edit my post: the buyer says he didn't know he did this. It appears I have misunderstood and ebay is meant to send me an Evri label? I haven't had one. Anyway I won't use Evri. Is there a way out of this other than just cancel the sale?

Thank you for that, in particular the settings links. Yes, I've cancelled, refunded, and relisted. I still don't understand why it's an option, the algorithm has no idea of the size or weight of the item so how can it work out an Evri postage? It was a large and heavy parcel and fee charged to the buyer was vastly inadequate

I only ever use services, usually Royal Mail, that I book and pay for directly, myself. 'Simple Delivery' ain't so simple!
