accidentally marking an item as collected but it has not

I have sold a heavy and expensive item and am awaiting buyer to collect, trying to make sense of the route to submitting the 6 digit code. I have accidentally marked the item as collected when it is still here.

 * Is this a big mistake?

 * what route do I follow to insert the 6 digit code when the item is colelcted
