Xmas window lights.

Hi I've ordered xmas window lights which I'm still awaiting delivery. I received a message from ebay saying please do not use, could cause fire. I contacted seller who informed me it was because they hadn't given a product safety certificate to ebay intime. So am I now safe to use them when they arrive?. The seller didn't offer a refund.

If there deemed as dangerous, then you can return within 30 days of receiving them for a full refund, if you were to open a case of not as described.The seller would then have to provide you with a prepaid return label and refund you within 3 days of getting the item back

I wouldn't risk it.    eBay have said they're not fit for purpose so on that basis you can do a return where the postage is paid for by the seller.   That's assuming the seller can't or won't cancel and refund.   So after you receive them start a return on here:

select "Doesn't match description" and escalate it to eBay after 3 complete working days.

If in doubt, when the arrive open case for not as described,

seller provides returns label, you post back for full refund.

Escalate on day 4 if no label or refund.

Ignore seller excuses, carry on with case.

Do NOT refuse item, open & escalate case.

Well you can always open a not as described case when they arrive and seller will have to supply a return label and refund.

If seller is a business seller it is up to them to comply with requirements, although a few weeks ago this would not have happened and no warning from ebay.

If manufactured in China they probably do not comply with any UK regulations.

As far as I know there is no safety certificate that sellers have to give ebay, so the seller could be trying to pull the wool over your eyes.

Don't take any risks. Do as advised and send them back.

You shouldn't be. eBay even warned you in the user agreement that "they do not guarantee the existence, quality, safety or legality of items advertised, or the truth or accuracy of descriptions".

If anything is shocking it's the number of buyers who use eBay without any idea of the risks involved. eBay is a jungle.
