I recently purchased an expensive mobile phone and I should be receiving it early next week. The private seller mentioned to me that he recently got it from Samsung and used their trade in option to achieve a healthy discount and thus selling it to me while making a small profit for himself. He told me on his own that he did a trade in, without me asking, so I kinda doubt he did a fake trade in without ever posting in his old device and then tell me about it.
As per Samsung rules if they don't receive your trade in device and since they give you a discount in advance, your new phone will end up getting blocked by them. I have no way of verifying if the seller has indeed sent his device in or not. He does seem honest and helpful and sent to me the original purchase receipt which is real as I validated with Samsung customer support however their trade in department refuses to answer any questions as am not the original buyer.
If my device next month ends up getting blocked would e-bay/paypal/my credit card provider step in and help me or ill be out of pocket a thousand?

eBay allow 30 days from date of delivery for claims. Credit cards and Paypal allow 120 days. Try and do it on ebay if poss.

We have heard from a number of buyers whose phones were not reported as stolen or blocked until more than 30 days after delivery. eBay would not be interested.
PayPal has the same 30 day limit, but if you paid by credit or debit card your card provider may be able to help for up to (usually) 120 days. A credit card would give the strongest protection.
I hate to say this, but eBay does warn buyers in the user agreement that "they do not guarantee the existence, quality, safety or legality of items advertised, or the truth or accuracy of descriptions". Would you have bought a £1k phone from a shop that stated this? Good luck, and keep your fingers crossed. eBay is a jungle.

I hear you. I guess that makes sense as a scammer would be trying to protect himself from ebay and paypal at least. Do you happen to know if said buyers were able to get their money back?
I have verified and the purchase receipt that I received is indeed valid. Right now I am waiting for evidence that he has shipped his older device in to Samsung. Failing this I will simply be returning it back within the 30 days windows. Do you have anything else to recommend that I should be requesting?
