Worried about sending pre payment

I’m being told I need to pre pay via PayPal for a bike costing a large amount of money but I’m worried about just handing over that amount of money before I get to meet up with the seller and check it’s legit. Can’t I arrange to view the item before I hand over my money?

As long as you pay through ebay you would still have buyer protection and can open a "not as described" case even for collected items.   If there is a problem when you collect it you can ask the seller to cancel the transaction.

As advised, you have to pay using Ebay checkout before you see the item.

If you pay through Ebay, you don't have to use Paypal.

You can use a credit or debit card.  

If the seller is asking for a Paypal payment NOT made through Ebay, that is a red flag and you should not proceed.
