Why has a direct debit been set up from my bank

Under Managed Payments rules,  if a refund has to be made,   and there are no current funds in the Available section of your Payment Summary,  then eBay will use your bacck up source,  which is usually your bank account to make this refund.

It is part of registering as a seller.

If you have fees to pay or have to refund a buyer and you don't have a balance of money in your Ebay account, they will deduct it from your bank.

As eBay are now sending returns/reports to HMRC you should expect to be audited for possible back taxes as an incorrectly registered business seller.
