Why do ebay allow so many counterfeit goods to be sold on their platform

It's irresponsible and surely against the law,

There are many reasons for NOT selling fakes... quality and safety of goods, legally ebay should be made to take responsibility.

What do you expect the cost would be if eBay were to inspect every item before it was listed?
