What do sellers think of having multiple accounts for selling?

What do people on here think of one seller having multiple selling accounts?

I've been looking around and it seems to be the "thing to do".

Although I have asked eBay CS, and on the weekly chat, about it - and they said its against eBay rules, sellers seem to get away with it.

I know sellers, including business sellers are allowed multiple accounts for either selling/buying, or selling different items, with different details but what about multiple business accounts, same details, selling the same thing as each other?

Do eBay care enough about this to take action or is it one of these things that eBay look the other way ?

I'm not aware of any rule that sellers must not sell on more than one account. The last time this arose several years ago an eBay rep. confirmed that there was no objection to multiple accounts, provided there is no interaction between them.

There are legitimate reasons why sellers may sometimes choose to sell using more than one account. Admittedly some might use it to cover bad feedback on another account, but buyers too can and do sometimes create new accounts for irregular reasons. Anything on eBay is open to abuse.

If a seller has been banned from selling on one account they are not allowed to open and sell on another account.

If you follow the usual precautions of checking feedback etc. I don't see that the risks of buying here are much affected by the possibility that the seller might also be selling on another account.

We know eBay do not allow sellers to have multiple accounts selling the same items. We've had it in writing from a community chat a few weeks ago and have had this confirmed by eBay CS but it seems that a blind eye is turned.

Why would you want to sell same items on a different account.

If it was different type of item, I can understand.

Multiple accounts are allowed as long as its not abusing the system by attempting to avoid buying and selling restrictions or limits, or other policies

It is a way of showing up twice on a search or flooding your particular area with your items. eBay CS say that it against the rules but never take any action in regards reporting this.
