Told buyer was a hacker

Hi, I don't really know what the point of what happened was but it's worrying me so I'll ask.

I put up a listing, someone,  X, bought and then within minutes I was messaged by another ebay name  Y to say their main ebay site had been hacked and the sale was to a hacker. They requested it be cancelled and I did (relisted at same price as it prompted me to do) and then they thanked me for refunding.

Thought no more about it until I received horrible negative feedback for cancelling the sale from X. I fill in what happened to request feedback be removed but this was turned down. I contact Y directly to say why do I have this negative feedback and can it be removed and I get 'Hell no, face the repercussions young lady!' back as though they had never asked me to cancel. I am very worried what the point of all this was and it was very upsetting.

In addition the 'young lady' reference worried me. I presume this was sarcastic as I'm a female pensioner but how would they know that? I thought personal details were safe on Ebay?

Can anyone shed light on what was going on here? How I can get feedback removed? For all I know X was a valid buyer but I was told to cancel as they were a hacker and I believed Y at the time.

Make sure you report the member who sent the message about the hacked account to Ebay.  Did that look like a genuine account with recent feedback?

It seems that somebody is trying to mess you about and trash your account.

It is very strange (to me) that the sale you are referring to was previously cancelled with negative feedback.

Could it potentially have been the person who originally bought the item who messaged you when it sold again?

You could apologise profusely to 'X', explain you had a message that you believed was genuine saying their account had been hacked and ask them if they would like to buy the item again.

I wouldn't worry about the 'young lady' reference - nobody can see your personal details unless you reveal them.  If this could be somebody who knows you, it might even be an idea to simply open a new account and keep the details to yourself.

Told buyer was a hacker

I would contact eBay Customer Services again,  but only do so very first thing in the morning when the lines first open at 8 a.m. as there' more chance of Dublin answering.  Direct them to the messages you received and that you just followed what was seemingly a  genuine warning and cancelled the sale worried that it was indeed a hacker,  see what CS says.

This is the easiest and quickest way to contact eBay Customer Services, for a Call Back option.

Lines open between 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays.

9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

As said,  I recommend contacting CS very first thing in the morning, when the lines first open,  as there's more chance of Dublin answering.

Told buyer was a hacker

Thanks so much for your help. I don't use my name as my Ebay Id so I don't see how anyone would know it was me. I will follow your advice and see what happens. Thanks again.
