Technical Issue

I had an email supposedly to be from eBay that an item that I purchased is faulty so advised me not to use it and to contact seller.  This I did but the seller wants me to try to use it which I am reluctant to do, any advice on my next step please

Ignore the seller's  suggestion.

eBay's own money back guarantee only lasts for 30 days, you cannot return it now for a refund if the time has lapsed, if not come back here we'll explain how to proceed.

eBay will pass on recall notices to buyers, but only for information; any responsibility will rest with the seller or manufacturer.

The recall notice should tell you what action you should take. This normally means returning the original item to the seller or manufacturer. If you are told to do so,  you can explain the item was purchased on eBay, and they may or may not refund you,  up to them, but I wouldn't use the item,  presumably electrical ?
