'Simple delivery' forced to use DHL for large package fiasco

I've only sold two things this year on eBay and both I've had to cancel now due to simple delivery.

The first time no drop-off point would accept a large parcel and I had to drive around looking for a place that would accept it, even through eBay gave explicit directions to take it to a drop off point and sent the prepaid label with the acceptable size and weight to eventually having to cancel the order just to change delivery method.

Now I was forced to have a DHL collection from home, so I booked it in three days in advance and took a half day off work to wait in. I was given a 1 hour timeslot from 11am which amounted to nothing and waited until 8pm just in case they were running late. No one ever arrived and the tracking was useless. I couldn't message the seller because eBay say only they will communicate with them as it's a simple delivery. I couldn't rebook a collection with DHL as their site sends you in circles and eBay had no options either.

I eventually got through to the DHL customer support over the phone the next day for them to say the depot said that they attempted the collection which is a complete lie as I was sitting at the window the whole day seeing every car that drove down my road, in full view.

So for a second time I've had to cancel an eBay sale and still can't use another courier that is reliable and trustworthy.

To be lied to by DHL is appalling and out of principle I would avoid using them at all costs.

I used to love eBay but now they're linking with DHL and the only option is simple delivery I cannot see myself using the platform anymore. I really wanted to start getting into selling after using it to buy for many years.

Hopefully they change soon as it's seems to be a mess right now.

Does anyone know if you can use DPD for private sales still? As I think they're pretty reliable.

Cheers.
