Simple Delivery - eBay Created Postage Labels 'Underweight'

Can someone confirm this please?

Simple Delivery - where an eBay created label has an underweight weight stated on it at no fault of the seller then I understand this 'should' happen. If the label thus created by eBay then proves to state an underweight amount then the Post Office shops have been told to still accept said package in spite of this miscalculation. The Post Office shop staff will be looking for a line on the bottom of the label reading 'Market Place Seller'.  I saw this via a You Tube channel.

The above is not exactly what I was told in an eBay chat by an agent. I posed the same query and was told this by the same agent (this is my understanding and I paraphrase). "Where an eBay label shows an underweight amount then I could 'phone the dedicated team who would refund me in full and issue a replacement label"! then I was told "I could enter dimensions larger than the package to ensure my package was covered". Personally, I found both these to put me on edge and I told the agent how I foresaw issues ahead.

Could an expert confirm, deny, embellish please?

We are all in the same bemused train of thought as you are.

Personally, I cannot see me walking into a big Post Office or even my little village PO,  with an underpaid item and for them to accept it  'because eBay said so'.

Would the system allow CS to re issue the correct label?  Who knows.  We'll just have to wait and see who the first person will be, who will kindly come back and tell us here, the outcome when they try this .

I'm wondering whether those in eBay HQ Towers in CaliforNIA  do not understand that Royal Mail and the Post Office are 2 separate Companies, that one will not graciously allow a mistake made by the other and accept an underpaid item?

In my humble opinion, it's worrying and uncertain times, especially for those selling high value items.

Hi

My sentiments exactly. I am convinced sometimes those Customer Support agents 'take a guess' without truly knowing a correct answer.

Trouble is,  with taking a ' guess'  and giving out the incorrect information could cost the member asking, a lot of money.

Then,  as it's a Call Back option no  written ' evidence' ,  to complain this was the information received and followed, to create a monetary loss.

Mentors are not experts and, at times like these, it is hard to give any useful advice.

Personally, I would be a bit cautious and make sure that sizes I entered were on the generous side.

(Then, of course, postage costs may appear high to your buyers and your 'star rating' could drop!)

I would absolutely not assume that if I take what is clearly a parcel to the Post Office with a Large Letter label on it that they will accept it. Anecdotal evidence from yesterday shows that the Post Office are saying 'No.  I don't care if it is an Ebay parcel. I can't accept it!'

Honestly, at the moment, it is all a bit of a mess!

The lack of clear information and advice from those we expect ot know is making it worse.

Hi

Again my sentiments precisely.

Tressygirl made a very good point and one I had forgotten. By this is I mean how Post Office and Royal Mail are not the same company. I refer any onlookers here to her well laid out reply/comment.

Indeed, I cannot imagine even having the 'brass neck' to walk into a nearby Post Office and expect them to take a wrongly labelled package. And even if they did what next as said package progresses along it's journey of 'hope'. As I said 'is it worth all the hassle'. I am sure the Customer Support agents feel overwhelmed with new stuff to learn. Having said that they should never be guessing or implying a 'gut feeling' to seller's questions so raised. I feel totally out of control and concerned!!

As the post office do not take any payment for ebay labels correct or not, I doubt many would feel obliged to be helpful.

They are in business to make a living for themselves, not to cover for ebay boobs, and if accepted who can say that buyer would not be asked to pay excess postage before delivery. As pointed out already, it is Royal Mail who deliver, the Post Office is responsible for getting postage correct.
