This morning I received the following email...
"Hi,
We're contacting you about a return request your buyer opened for *****.
This order was processed through Simple Delivery, so we handled the return on your behalf.
You don't need to take any action and you won't be charged for this refund.
If you have any questions or concerns, just get in touch. We’re here to help. Thanks for being part of the eBay community."
I then saw a message saying that the item would not be sent back to me either!
Can I confirm that I will be getting the item back as I want to resell the item and I am completely confused by this new system at the moment.

Your buyer has opened a case stating the item was damaged in transit.
Because the item was sent using Simple Delivery, Ebay arrange a refund and pay the buyer.
The buyer is allowed to keep the item.
You get paid the cost of the item so you do not suffer any financial loss.
Because Ebay compensate the buyer, they can tell the buyer they do not need to return the item. You can't have the payment from the buyer and get the item back to sell again.
