Seller Won’t Refund Overpaid Postage – What Can I Do?

I need some advice on a situation with a seller. I made offers on 8 cheap vinyl records and selected Collect in Person because the seller is in the same town. When the seller accepted all the offers, eBay automatically took payment including the postage listed on each item (most were £5 each).

I messaged the seller asking for the postage to be refunded and for collection instructions. He didn’t reply for a few days, then said everything was packed for posting and promised to refund the overpaid postage after sending the items. I reluctantly agreed, even though I wanted to collect and pay no postage.

The postage turned out to cost £10.10 but the overpayment still totals £30.20. Despite multiple follow-up messages, the seller has ignored me and hasn’t refunded anything.

Has anyone dealt with something like this? Can eBay force a partial refund for overpaid postage even after items have been sent? What’s the best way to proceed? These records, which were supposed to be cheap fillers, have ended up costing far more than expected.

Thanks in advance!

Did you buy from a Private seller who had Buyer pays Postage on their listings?  Then,  the seller probably used eBay's Simple Delivery,  ask them if you're not sure,  then for any unused SD postage labels,  eBay will automatically refund you, but it can take 30  plus days.

It sounds like your choice to collect it  person didn't register so your offers went through as postage.

If it was through simple delivery and you paid the postage to ebay, you should get a refund from ebay for any unused labels.  It can take 30 days for that to happen.

If you paid the seller for the postage, only they can refund any difference.

The seller didn't use simple delivery. They went to the post office and sent the parcel manually as a medium parcel. They sent me the proof pf postage. They promised me the partial refund on each item but didn't do it. Then ignored my messages. I said last night I will need ebay to step in (I don't know how to get them to help). Today seller just messaged "let ebay deal with the issue".

If the items were listed with simple delivery but the seller didn't use it the postage will be refunded for the unused labels by eBay to whoever paid for them in this case it would be you, this can take up to 40 days
