Can anyone advise me please?
I have sold a vehicle via the Buy it Now feature- the buyer has not yet paid but wants me to send registration plate details. I am wary of “clones” - should I insist on payment before I disclose those details?
Thanks in advance,
Grufydd

Never accept ebay payments for vehicles.
Buyer comes, inspects vehicle and if happy pays cash or bank transfer.

Fingers crossed, everything will be ok.
Don't rely on crossed fingers! Keep in mind that there is no buyer or seller protection whatsoever for motor vehicles sold on eBay. There is so much fraud on eBay motors that both partes have to protect themselves.
For the seller the important thing is not to release the vehicle to the buyer on any pretext until they have paid in full, either by cash or by a cleared bank transfer. If in doubt about clearance, ask advice from your bank.
For the buyer, the risks are far higher. They need to check that you have title to sell the vehicle, that it is not stolen, subject to a hire purchase agreement or written off. In other words, they would be wise ho have an HP check made.
Then, of course, they still have to check or get someone else to check the condition of the vehicle and that it meets the desription. Don't take offence if your buyer is painstakngly thorough about this, because endless buyers on eBay have unwittingly paid for vehicles that wre faulty, unsafe or didn't even exist! You would be amazed how many buyer we have heard from who were conned - according to the police, by organised crime gangs - into paying for non-existent vehicles unseen.

As previously advised and for your further security, make sure that --- only when you have a definite buyer with Cash in hand or a Bank Transfer is safely deposited/confirmed before handing over Vehicle keys/documents on buyer viewing /collection. --- Do not accept payment through eBay checkout or a PayPal payment for Vehicles.
