Hi community,
I want to share my recent experience to highlight the complete lack of seller protection on this platform.
On December 26th, I sold a laptop to a buyer with a brand-new account created that same day. Almost immediately, they opened a return for a false reason (claiming missing original box, which was never advertised).
When the return arrived, it was a classic scam: the box contained heavy cardboard and a dead battery, not the laptop I sent.
I reported this immediately, expecting eBay to support me against this obvious theft. Instead, eBay closed the case in the buyer's favor instantly, with no investigation. By doing this, the platform is effectively facilitating fraud and leaving sellers with zero protection.
I have now reported this incident to the Police as theft and fraud, and I have reported eBay to the authorities for failing to act on clear criminal activity.
Be very careful selling high-value electronics. If a new account targets you, the system will likely side with them regardless of the evidence you provide.

Nothing new I am afraid, as you say Seller protection is non existent.
Just as buyers can open a Not as described case, before sellers are forced to refund, they should have the opportunity to confirm that item has been returned as expected, but then buyers would be screaming that buyer protection does not exist.

You should be able to appeal the refund (perhaps) and if you have been in touch with the police you should have a reference number, Crime number, you will need this as part of your appeal and then ebay may listen.

Thank you ,
Tomorrow morning i will try to call them again, but on the last call they was very clear that the result of the case will not change. I will keep you updated with the result of the call.
