Hi everyone,
Apologise for the long post, but I wasn't able to explain my problem with less words.
With the help of Royal Mail, I’ve managed to get myself into a bit of a problem that I can’t resolve on my own.
A buyer purchased two items from me under eBay’s Simple Delivery with tracking. I dropped both parcels off at the post office on Friday. Unfortunately, due to my mistake, I accidentally printed the same tracking slip for both items.
The first parcel was accepted without issue, but the second was rejected because the tracking code had already been used.
I had to catch a flight shortly afterward, so I didn’t have the chance to check my emails and sort it properly at the time.
Fast forward to Monday: I returned to the post office with the second parcel and both the QR codes with me.
Now here’s where things got even more confusing:
Since I couldn’t remember which QR code had already been used, I brought both with me. I figured I’d scan the first, and if it showed as “already in use,” I’d simply use the second one. But the Post Office accepted the parcel without any issue—so I assumed all was well.
Then this morning (Tuesday), while organizing my receipts, I noticed something odd: both parcels have been sent under the same tracking number, three days apart.
Throughout all this, I’ve kept the buyer informed and up to date. Today, I visited the post office again to ask how this could happen. They weren’t sure, but assured me the parcel should still arrive safely—even with the duplicated tracking.
Here’s my question:
How can I notify eBay that the tracking number they assigned for Parcel #2 was never actually used, because Royal Mail ended up sending both items under the tracking for Parcel #1?
I want to make sure the buyer is protected and that I don’t get penalized for missing or incorrect tracking, even though both items were sent.
