I purchased an item that is not as described and does not work. I have requested a return which has been accepted, however I now need to post to china at my cost. However the item was posted from the UK, that is a massive cost I have to pay, when the item is not as described. EBay do t seem to grasp the situation? Any thoughts?

That is wrong. If the item was posted from the UK then the seller has to have it returned to a UK address  and not overseas. (and at their expense). You may need to contact customer services to get the correct label in this case. In any matter do not close the case for any excuses from the seller.
