Returned item got damaged in the return post, what do I do?

I have issued a refund, because it not the buyer's fault (he used the original packaging). I sent him an eBay postage label (Royal Mail 48) bur the item (Laserdisc player £375) has been severely damaged on the return journey. How do I set about getting compensation?

Hou should becable to claim on Royal Mail, but may need some information from the buyer to complete the claim.

With RM I understand that either the sender or the receiver can make a claim

I think you will need to speak to eBay about this as not all RM48 returns have compensation and even if this one does the maximum compensation is £150
