Hi. I bought an item but didn’t realise it was for collection. I cannot collect the item and have cancelled the purchase but the payment has been taken from my account. The seller hasn’t cancelled the payment on his side. Will I get a refund?

Hi, Buyers can't cancel, they can only request a cancellation and whether the seller agrees is more or less up to them. 

If they are a private seller they are not obliged to cancel. If they are a business they could cancel unless they have actually shipped the item, in which case it will be too late.

You can see if they are a business if you look at the top of their feedback page. If they are you can return the item at your own cost for a refund.

Some private sellers also accept returns, so look on the item description to see if they do.

I've just re read your post and didn't notice it's a collection in person item.

Send a message to your seller explaining your mistake, apologising for it and ask if they will accept a cancellation.

If all else fails, after a week you can open an Item not received case next to your purchased item in Myebay. You will get your money back.

If the seller doesn't accept your cancellation request you will be able to use the money back guarantee and put in a claim for item not received.   You might need to wait 7 days.  That will get you your refund.
