Refund denied is clearly an error

My refund request is denied because I have to wait to confim an item isn't received. This is in spite of the fact that the seller has messaged me through eBay to say they no longer have the item and want to cancel too. eBay keeps passing the responsibility on to the other person for cancellation. They told me the seller has to cancel, which they did, and it was still denied. eBay has my money and it seems they want to hold on to it for as long as possible. eBay... Please see common sense and give me my money back!

We are not eBay, only other users like yourself.

It's not a matter of common sense, it's a matter of following eBay's procedures for refunds and returns. eBay is correct that only the seller can initiate a cancellation and refund. Instead of just messaging the seller, have you used eBay's prodedure to request a cancellation?  This might help him to do so: https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/buying/cancelling-order/cancel-order?id=4004&st=12&pos=1&query=Cancel%20...

Otherwise, if your seller still can't or won't cancel the sale (when eBay will issue your refund) you will have to wait until after the latest extimated delivery date and then open a case under eBay's money back guarantee: https://pages.ebay.co.uk/ebay-money-back-guarantee/
