Reason for withholding payment after delivery

Can anyone tell me why eBay takes two days after an item is delivered to make the funds available to withdraw? They have collected them from the buyer, and held them until the item is delivered, which is presumably to make sure it is sent and delivered, but I can't see any reason to withhold them further, other than for them to collect interest on someone else's money. Do they explain themselves anywhere?

They say in help articles that they do this (that it is two days after delivery when they make them available), but not why.

eBay are not revealing the reason why,  but whatever the reason in a few days,  from the 6th of August,  once tracking shows delivery the payout for the item is released within 24 hours,  if your account is in good standing and with at least 10 sales made with a combined total of £150 within 5 years.

Ebay doesn't have to explain why they hold onto a payment for two days after tracking proves delivery - it's their site and their rules which you agree to by selling on the site.

Currently, if items are sent untracked sellers are paid 14 days after the transaction.

However, as explained, regular and reliable sellers will be paid more quickly from 6th August.
