Quitting eBay selling: After 23 years selling on eBay I have called it a day.

I have been selling on ebay for just over 23 years, never made a ton of money but enjoyed shipping items to people worldwide, the main reason I have quit is because of the intrusive snooping of HMRC. I am not happy that eBay and other sites are compelled to furnish a Government Agency with my personal details.

Simple as that really, big brother worried that I and others may make an extra few pounds that they could not get their grubby hands on. So it's time to throw the towel in.

Good luck everyone.

This is the member to member board for quick fire questions and answers, so your post will receive very few responses, and only from the mentors.

Unfortunately the predicament you describe is nothing to do with ebay they are just having to follow the law laid down originally by the OECD who implemented this along with 38 countries worldwide, the UK being one, so HMRC have to follow suit. If you have nothing to hide you'll be fine, you sell on a private account so if you were for instance to get a nudge letter from HMRC then you would state that items are from around your home, and no further action would be taken.

Personally our details in one form or another are out there everywhere, so I wouldn't let it stop you selling here if thats what you enjoy.
