With ebay's Simple Delivery the seller is automatically covered for items for up to £750 in case of loss or damage in transit. Buyer would open the relelvant case, ebay issues the refund themselves and the seller keeps the payment.
As a new seller the payment will probably be held by ebay for 30 days.

What are you thinking of selling?
Some jewellery items (as an example) are covered by the Ebay Authenticity Guarantee which gives the buyer and seller some degree of protection, but many people would advise against selling an expensive item on here unless you are an experienced seller.
As a seller with no feedback, you may well attract the wrong sort of 'buyer' and, even after a successful sale, as a new seller selling a pricey item, it is likely you would have to wait for payment.
You need to set your account up properly so you can list items for sale and get paid.
