Not a good idea, you will have no proof of delivery or collection.

Payment will be held and an item not received case is possible.

You can,  but you would then have no proof that the item was delivered.

It's best to cancel the order citing Buyer requests to cancel,  this fully refunds the buyer and your seller performance is not affected.  Then relist it as a Collection only item,  for the buyer to buy from you again.

This way your buyer receives that all important collection code,  which when you scan or enter the numbers manually,  shows the item was collected.

You need to of course to message the buyer to explain what you are doing,  and the reason, but make it very, very clear in your messages,  that you will be relisting the item on eBay again for the buyer to buy, make it clear this is not an off eBay sale.

Postage is never free, in this case you pay from what the buyer pays. Trying to deliver, buyer would think they should get a partial refund, apart from the risk of having to refund in full if buyer opens a not received case.
