Postage change

I recently sold an item and had postage set to Royal Mail 1st class. Item sold for more than expected and I’d like to send it recorded instead and pay the difference. Is it possible to not get the postage through eBay and just send via post office and add tracking number instead?

Ebay's Simple Delivery covers items for up to £750.  If item is lost or damaged in transit ebay refunds the buyer and you keep the payment.

If you haven't done so already,  this is how to manually add your tracking number . Use a laptop / PC with Chrome preferably to do this,  not the app or mobile browser:

  • Go to "Orders Paid & Dispatched"
  • Click on "View order details"
  • Within the "Postage" section there's a small dropdown arrow next to "Track Package" - click on that.
  • Click on the "Add tracking" option
  • A box will come up with the current tracking number . Delete that and replace it with your tracking.

'Recorded' is not a Royal Mail Service and hasn't been for many years.  It was replaced by 'Signed For' but that only covers the value of your item up to £20 so don't use that.

You can just take the item to the Post Office and buy an appropriate service.

The only one that will cover an item of that value is Special Delivery - it will cost about £9.

Jewellery and watches are not eligible for Ebay Simple Delivery.
