Postage Change by eBay on sold item

I sold a sewing pattern a couple of days ago. I've sold similar ones earlier this year so I choose buyer to pay postage of £1.55 via Royal Mail as before. The item cost is only £2.50. When I went to print the label, I will be charged £3.50 postage but the buyer only paid £1.55, and he did not change the postage method, eBay changed it. Can I just not use the label and post it myself at the post office?

I find all these postage problems very confusing and I have lost money on other items that this happened with but I didn't notice until I had completed the label purchase.

When you listed, did you get the CUSTOM POSTAGE box, so that you could do your own method of postage?

You should therefore be able to post for £1.55, and just mark as dispatched. Knitting patterns come in one of the exempt catagories.

If an ebay postage label is generated, cancel it.

For your unused label here is how to receive a refund,  if you selected ‘Seller pays’ and offered free postage on your listing, you'll need to fill out the Request a refund for Simple Delivery form for the label that wasn’t used.

Make sure to send your request within 14 days of your item selling.  Also ensure you add the replacement tracking number of the service used, and it shows delivery.
