This is a horrid situation for you, but it happens a lot.
Unfortunately, eBay nor the seller are liable or responsible where an item is left that is down to the courier, and yes, more and more do not ring the bell, we have that all the time, to find later, a sodden wet parcel sitting outside in the rain.
You will not receive any refund from eBay, as the seller has proof tracking has shown delivery.
Not sure how successful this will be, but you could try and contact DHL explain the item was left in an unsafe place and doorbell was not rung, see what they say.
