Packet containing just piece of cardboard

I have received a small packet, delivered by Evri, from eBay Simple Delivery, containing just a small piece of cardboard.  I have received everything I have recently ordered and nothing is showing on my account. I'm worried that this could be a scam?

Yes,  it could be,  if you're not expecting any other delivery.

Google Brushing Scam,  see if it applies here.

Thank you.  Never heard of 'brushing'.   Have googled it and doesn't seem I can do much about it.  Possibly report it to eBay customer services, although I have no idea where it has come from.

Personally I can't see how brushing works with Simple Delivery.   It's too automated.

Are you sure there are no outstanding orders on your account?

The senders address should be on the Simple Delivery label (tiny font, over to the middle right).

No orders outstanding.  Have received all recent orders.

Nothing on the label.  Just Evri van drop details.  The label has the weight as 1kg but only a piece of cardboard weighing almost nothing!  It has a reference no. 7742373419  -  could this be a senders ref?  Not sure how a seller can be checked.  Have just noticed that the date of despatch is 2025-11-22 which is VERY odd!  Looks like the American way of dating i.e. 22nd Nov 2025

Don't think anything even if ' too automated ' is safe.  M & S I'm sure had (all??)  protection in place still  their system hacked and customers details stolen.

Brushing involves  Scammers getting your address from data breaches or public records,  maybe not the case here,  but still disconcerting if no orders outstanding, but a piece of cardboard received.

Doesn't sound like any simple error made by an eBay seller here.  Something is going on ! 🤔

How can you be sure it is sent using Simple Delivery? It might just be a label purchased through ebay.

From what I understand of “brushing”, it is just a scam to give the seller a phoney selling history and feedback, so no real risk to you, although someone would have a record of your name and address.

Not much point reporting to ebay, as you have no details of a transaction and doubt they would be interested.
