Package returned to sender as damaged, but there is nothing wrong with it?

I recently sold an item and posted it to the buyer using Ebay simple delivery (Evri). The Paracel was not delivered but on the tracking it stated that the parcel was damaged and was to be returned to me.

The return arrived at my home today and checking it over there is absolutely no damage to the packaging (a tough cardboard box) and is exactly as it was when dropped off at the parcel collection.

It appears that Evri could not be bothered to deliver it, what should I do now?

How frustrating.

Firstly send a message to your buyer explaining what has happened,  the picture you showed here, add that to the message to add that you are as baffled as they no doubt are,  as the picture shows no damage whatsoever.

As you have the item and the buyer's money ask them to open a case for item not received.

Now, as per Simple Delivery rules,  if no attempted delivery was made they will refund the buyer and you get to keep the payout!  See what happens.

If the buyer wishes to buy the item again obviously after they receive their refund,  you'll need to relist the item and perhaps deselect Evri leave Royal Mail as your only postage option,  perhaps they'll have better luck!

To deselect Evri do this before you relist,  you'll need to do so in your Site Preferences:

Evri did have an issue with parcels not being collected from drop off points & returned them to sender.

Ask buyer to open item not received case, if you used SD, ebay should refund buyer.

You can then relist for buyer to buy again.

It could / would / may ( some things so complicated with Simple Delivery !)  that you as  a seller would get paid twice ? ! 🤔

I have no idea if you were then to contact CS,  would they retrieve one of those payments from you, they may,  you could ask.

  If all the above does happen , and obviously it will take a few days or weeks for completion,  please,  do come back and tell us the result,  that is,   .... did eBay refund the buyer,  and  if you relisted and were paid again,  did eBay take back one payment?

It's a learning curve and a first day back at school, for us all !  🙄

Thank you all for taking the time to respond to me, i really appreciate it. 

I have messaged the seller and have asked for them to open an item not received case, hopefully this will get them a refund? I am still extremely annoyed by this process as it has really put me off selling on eBay, and especially using Evri as a delivery carrier for any further sales I may make on whatever platform.

Once this whole thing has been resolved I will update this post. Thanks again.

Deselect Evri  in your Site Preferences,   ( my link above) they do seem to be the courier to attract the most unhappy customers and poor results !

Ok, just to update. The buyer raised an " item not received case" with ebay and it has come back as settled in my favour stating: 

We reviewed this case and have closed it without any refund to the buyer.

The case will not affect your seller performance. Any Feedback left for this transaction will be removed.

We received tracking information that shows the item was delivered to the buyer's address.

I am confused as to what my next step should be as obviously the item has not been delivered? 

I am also confused as i looked up the original delivery address in google maps and it is a self storage facility?
