PO item has been intercepted and an "ebay" parcel has been substituted-what can I do ?

I have sent a tracked parcel by Royal mail, nothing to do with ebay.

It has "arrived" but the package has been opened, my contents removed and an "ebay" item has been put in instead. I have put in a claim to Royal mail, but there is a new sticker on the back of my original parcel with a "ebay deliver to" name on it.

Please note this is all remote, but my contact has sent me a photo of my parcel, which has my stamps & address label, Signed for sticker etc on it, but has been re-wrapped in black plastic.

Can ebay help via the name given as the intended "ebay" parcel recipient ?
It all sounds like a scam delivery, and I have asked my contact not to give anything to anyone who might call about it.  What else can I do?

Sounds very odd but ebay will not give out any names.

It would be against the law under Data protection.

Hard to understand what you mean by this is all remote and your contact sent you a photo?.

How do you know it's an 'ebay item'?

How do you know know your  'contact' isn't pulling a fast one?

Substituting parcel contents is not usually done by RM employees, but by another courier.

Royal Mail don’t use black plastic to re wrap parcels.

something doesn’t add up here.

re three replies:

It is "remote" as my parcel recipient sent me photos of the opened parcel after arrival. Recipent was doing me a favour and sending my (now missing) contents back.

I raised a Royal mail complaint, and after the recipient sent a photo of the (still valid) ebay 48-tracked sticker on the black plastic "rear" - which had the sender return address. Using that, I manage to identify the seller, who I've contacted about it.

They confirmed the contents and that it had gone missing, and have raised a separate Royal mail complaint, and has given me their reference number.

Best guess: Royal mail sorting office machinery has ripped my front address assembly (panel+stamps/QR code post/Barcode) off my parcel, & attached it to an unrelated ebay parcel that happened to be nearby at the time. That was eventually delivered to my recipient - my contents might still be at that sorting office - my parcel had my name/address as "From" on the rear.

So, prob no scam, looks like Royal Mail F-up.

Any ideas how to contact Royal mail about identifying sorting office/them looking for my parcel contents ?

Your tracking should identify where your parcel went to be sorted.

Thanks for that, papso22. It only show my posting office and that Witham DO (= delivery office?)

- might that where sorting might have had this happen ?

DO is delivery office but would be a good place to start trying to identify the SO.
