Could you explain what you mean by "paid privately" for this sofa?
All purchases on eBay (apart from few exceptions like motor vehicles) have to be paid for through eBay's checkout. This includes items that are collected.
If you somehow paid the seller direct, not through eBay, there will be no buyer protection for the purchase. It will be between you and the seller.
