Why are sellers allowed to over price items 2x the amount they are selling for in the shops? I just found something that is out of stock and looked for it on here and it’s over 2x the amount surely that wrong

Sellers can charge what they like.

Some online prices for basic items are quite ridiculous but nobody has to pay those prices unless you are purchasing something you genuinely cannot live without.

This is called supply and demand, you can't buy it in the shops, so some people are willing to pay extra for it.

It happens every Christmas, usually kids latest toys.

It may seem unfair, but it's not illegal.

It's how business works; buy and item and sell it for more. If people want it at the higher price, they'll buy it.

There's currently a graphic novel that was just released for £20 that's being resold for £80 on all online markets. If it's worth £80 to a buyer, then that's a result for the seller.

You could equally ask why buyers are sometimes willing to pay 2x the price of an item is selling for in the shops?

Remember covid, when ordinary £16 tins of fence paint were selling online for over £50?  Or event tickets, for which buyers will pay multiple times the face value.

Supply and demand will always determine whether prices rise or fall.

There is also a very simple explanation, seller is out of stock so increases price to avoid any sales until more stock received.
If this is not the reason, no one is forcing you to buy, so what is the problem.

TBH.

There is no such thing as over or under pricing.

You list items at price you are happy to sell for.

If doesn't sell, maybe it is too expensive

if it sells for more, someone was willing to pay it & you make extra money.
