Ok here goes, got an email from ebay (no reply !!!)

Ebay emailed me saying an item I purchased and I quote poses hazard of fire, explosion and electric shock.

Told me to contact seller (guess what in China !!)

Sellers response “rest assured product complies with UK standards blah blah blah”

So why has eBay taken this item off their site as “violation of ebay policies ???

Getting nowhere with ebay as they dont have an actual section for this kind of situation.

How long ago did you buy the item?

If 30 days you can still return it via an eBay or PayPal item not as described claim.

If less than 120 days you can issue a not as described chargeback via your card provider.

After 30 days, this is between you and the seller.

Ebay have to inform you if an item is withdrawn for safety reasons but what happens next is up to you.

Sellers are often reluctant to help so you may have to do further research and decide if you are going to cut your losses and safely dispose of the item, or continue to use it now you are aware there is a risk.

Was the item shipped from within the UK or direct from China?

Thanks for all your advice in the community. Got nowhere with Chinese , they said goods are safe even sent a FAKE safety certificate!

I asked them why EBay have blocked them from selling the product if it’s safe! Guess what NO REPLY.

The question from vyolla is still relevant, as depending on location will determine best action to take. If in UK return to UK location would be at seller’s expense and much easier to get a full refund.

Why would you expect expect eBay to "care"? The user agreement warns buyers that eBay does not guarantee that items sold here will be safe or even legal. You still chose to buy it here, so it could be said that you didn't care either. Would you have bought from a shop that said this?

The protection that eBay provides is its money back guarantee. But this only lasts for 30 days - you accepted this too. From day 31 eBay is not involved. Any issues are between you and the seller.

It's important to understand that buying from unknown sellers on eBay is not like buying from the shops. eBay is a jungle.
