Offers on items

Hi - advice please.  I'm struggling to understand the make an offer system now that the new buying rules are in place.  I had an email asking if I would accept £6 for my item.  I emailed back and said yes I would accept that if they made an offer.  I then immediately got an offer for £5.05 which I declined.  The buyer then came back saying I had agreed to accept their offer of £6 which they had made but of course by the time ebay made their deductions I wasn't getting £6.  I lost that sale and ruffled feathers unintentionally.

I've now had an offer on another item and I am afraid it will go the same way.  I feel I am losing sales due to this new buyer policy.  Am I misunderstanding it or doing something wrong?  If it really is this complicated then I just won't use the make an offer.

Thanks in advance.

Offers on items

So, under the new Buyer Protection scheme, if a buyer makes an offer and the seller accepts it, in effect the seller ends up paying the buyer fee (4% + 75p).

If the seller makes a counter offer then the buyer pays it if they accept.
