Need Advice – Buyer Claims Faulty Item, But Evidence Shows Otherwise

Hello eBay community,
I’m a private eBay seller and am currently facing a return dispute with a buyer. I hope to get some advice on how to handle it.

Here’s the situation:
I sold a brand-new, sealed item and shipped it with clear video evidence showing it was in perfect condition when it left my hands. The buyer contacted me before receiving it, stating they planned to request a return, regardless of the item’s condition. Now, the buyer claims the item is faulty, and uploaded a photo showing a large hole in the product. However, the damage looks clearly intentional, and the condition is inconsistent with how I shipped the item.

Additionally, the buyer’s statements are contradictory. Initially, they mentioned a small, nearly invisible hole, but now they’re showing a much larger hole in the photo, which raises doubts about the claim.

The buyer’s original complaint was based on the item not arriving within their expected 4-day window, but eBay’s policy doesn’t support returns due to shipping delays.

My question:
In a case like this, will eBay protect the seller, or how should I proceed to ensure this dispute is resolved fairly?

I would appreciate any advice or similar experiences from fellow sellers. Thank you!

Firstly eBay does support returns when an item arrives after the estimated delivery date.

You should accept the return and refund,if it is damaged and you believe this to have been done intentionally you can report the buyer to eBay.

Thank you for your response. However, I have already reported this case to eBay because the buyer messaged me before receiving the item, stating that they would request a free return from eBay due to the delivery delay. However, eBay reviewed and rejected their initial claim.

Initially, the buyer claimed there was a tiny, barely visible damage to the item. Shortly after, they opened a new request with photos showing the item as completely and clearly damaged, which raises concerns.

I will await eBay's decision regarding this matter. Thank you anyway!
