I have checked my account and I am well below the £1740 allowance as I am only at £740 max for this year so Ebay are completely wrong in all this as for HMRC I have spoken to them and again they tell me I am not on the limited as a private seller so ebay are very wrong is asking you to supply your NI Number so all this needs to stop with ebay wrongly asking for NI numbers for HMRC when it does NOT APPLY TO ACCOUNTS THAT ARE WELL BELOW THE ABOVE VALUE!!!!...SO EXPLAIN AGAIN????

Ebay has to pass your details to HMRC if you sell more than 30 items in a year.
There are two thresholds: 30 items or about £1740.
You have sold 13 items in the last two months and, looking at your feedback as a seller, it does look as if you have gone over the limit of 30 items.
Details from the link:
For residents of the UK, eBay is legally required to report both your sales transactions and certain personal or business information to His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC). eBay will report this information should you meet either of the following thresholds within the calendar year:

that is where they are wrong i have not gone over 30 items i keep on telling them and HMRC have too said they are not interested as i am no where near the value so selling a number of items is not the value criteria to be used, its a value that is required so EBAY THIS IS THEFT!!!!!

It is not a value.
If you have sold 30 items this year, even if you sold 30 items at 99p, Ebay would have to pass your details, including your NI number to HMRC.
Ebay is unlikely to make an error. They have a record of every sale you have made.
It is easy enough to tot up your sales for the year - you can check here to see how many items you have sold this year:

totally crazy as i spoke with HMRC and they stated not interested in private sellers under the £1740 ebay threshold it is still theft from ebay as they have no right to hold money from sellers whom are private sellers whom have not met the £1740 there can be a much nicer way in doing all this as ebay get nothing from it other than holding monies wrongly and using that money for there own benefit!!!

You have been assured by HMRC that you have no tax to pay so why not simply give Ebay your NI Number?
22-09-2025 2:24 PM
no as there is no criteria of £1740 as for myself i am no were near it!!!...i just dont like ebay in there own ways in ignoring sent messages directly to them and ignoring the real issue and them holding monies falsely it was the same with the way the postage worked where they took a percentage but did nothing for it as they did not send the item and the costs involved so there having 10% is also theft too

Ebay are complying with their legal obligation as an online marketing place.
You can check this out in their help pages.

maybe but with false criteria on certain ebay accounts as they are not using the correct criteria to judge such an account like mine, its all false and theft on EBAY, there obligations do not meet this criteria in falsness they are just taking everyone with no correct evidence i sent them all ine and all they do IS IGNORE WHAT I AHVE SENT TO THEM EACH TIME THEY ARE UNPROFESSUIONAL AND RUDE!!!!

It's £1740 in sales OR when you've sold 30 items, which it looks like you have done.

you just stated there is no criteria of £1740 so what on earth are you speaking about now???

You are the one who said that!
There are two reporting (not tax) thresholds but we all think you have breached the 30 item one.
They are not 'allowances'.

the 30 item criteria HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HMRC that is not a criteria they work too!!!!!!

It's a reporting threshold for when ebay has to provide sales information to HMRC. It, together with the value one of approx £1,740, was introduced in January 2024 as part of new legal regulations agreed between 38 participating countries, including ours.
HMRC knows about these thresholds, as you can see if you look at gov.uk.
They are not tax thresholds, they are just for reporting purposes. HMRC will then decide what to do with the information.
If you talk to HMRC about it you need to ask them about the reporting requirements, not tax, or you will get the wrong information.

If ebay have requested NI number and you refuse to supply it, they are likely to suspend your account.
You can argue with them all you want, but it is your account at risk.
As said, it is HMRC you require it, ebay are just fulfilling their obligations.

you ate ebay are all wrong there is no HMRC threshold or 30 sales items at all as criteria believe when i ahve asked the right questions in all this, you need to ask HMRC yourselves and stop thinking i dont know what HMRC are speaking about!!...one cannot suspend an account and hold money like they are doing as in a court of law as i am a lawyer they will loose ITS CLASSED AS THEFT!!!!!

If you sell 30 items, Ebay has a legal obligation to report your sales, and your personal details including your NI number, to HMRC.
One of the ways they can get you to supply this information is to withold payments and you will not be able to sell on the site unless you supply this information.
The information I have copied and pasted is from the Gov.UK website - so an accurate and reliable source.
Please read the infortion below from the Government website.
'Digital platforms must share sales data and some personal information for 2024 with HMRC by the end of January 2025. If you have sold at least 30 items or earned roughly £1,700 (equivalent to €2,000) using platforms like eBay or Vinted, or provided a paid-for service such as a holiday rental through Airbnb on a website or app in 2024, your platform provider will let you know that your information has been shared with HMRC.'
